After years of evolution, preparation, and benefits to the community

Amigos de los Animales or the future Humane Society of Quepos/Manuel Antonio

is poised to take a giant leap forward in securing better care for the domestic animals

in our area.

The Construction of new Animal Shelter facilities will demonstrate our commitment

for a better future for our animal friends.

An Animal shelter is the center of a community of animal care and control programs

It should be attractive and convenient to the community and above all it must be a place of security and comfort for the animals sheltered there.

It should be in a central location accessible to all the human population being served including handicapped and should be visually welcoming to the public.

● Phase 1 consists of securing property which is easily accessible and will be sufficient

    and flexible enough for at least a 10 year commitment. 

● Phase 2 would be the final design and construction of a facility to house office(s),

    space for both incoming and adoptable animal kennels, a cat room, an isolation

    room and space for basic care necessities, grooming/ laundry room and storage. 

● Its design will allow for expansion to include interview and education space,      

   food preparation and increased animal accommodation.

● Phase 3 is continued support for the Humane Society and operating costs

            ● operating costs (fixed and variable)

            ● the costs of new equipment and expanding programs

While the exact floor plan will be dependant on property options and whether a building

exists, the basic needs will always be the same.   Minimum 3,500 sq. ft structure

-         guaranteed clean water supply

-         electricity

-         easy access

-         easy to clean and maintain

-         capacity for 40 animals inside dry and sheltered from the elements.

-         quarantine and isolation room

-         2 offices minimum,  admin and general/reception

-         storage

-         bathroom

-         examination room

-         volunteer room/kitchen

-         dry and secure interior

-         sufficient green space outside

The entire operation will eventually run with the ongoing support of a large team of volunteers and 2 Salaried positions which are required to assure stability, confidentiality  responsibility and commitment to long term goals.

The above commitments are totally dependant on gifts and fundraising within our local

and corporate communities.
